Location Specific Practice Number (LSPN)

From 1 July 2003 a new registration program was introduced for all diagnostic imaging and radiation oncology practice sites.

Medicare benefits are now only payable for diagnostic imaging and radiation oncology services, such as an X-ray or ultrasound, from sites that have practice registration. Practices providing these services will need to quote their registration number on patient accounts/receipts for you to receive a Medicare benefit.

The registration number (known as a location specific practice number) will be used to identify the location where the diagnostic imaging procedure or radiation oncology service is undertaken and ensure that the type of equipment used meets Medicare eligibility requirements.

The LSPN register allows you to search for locations that have practice registration. Further information about the registration of practice sites can be found on the LSPN section of Medicare Australia's website or on the Department of Health and Ageing'sExternal link website. You can also call Medicare Australia on 132 011* to find your nearest registered practice location.

*Local call rates. Normal mobile and public phone charges apply.
